Cross Heath (June 2009)

Official opening of £15 million Mill Rise extra care village in Cross Heath
Region: Cross Heath

Hilary Freakley, aged 65, is one of the first residents to move into Mill Rise extra care village in Cross Heath. The £15 million Mill Rise centre is one of the first schemes outside London to combine extra care housing for over-55s with a state-of-the-art primary care centre on the site of the former Collins and Aikmen factory in Lower Milehouse Lane. Mrs Freakley is one of 20 residents to take advantage of a shared ownership scheme. The remaining 40 apartments are for rent. Our picture was taken in June 2009 when Mill Rise opened to its first residents.

I want to see the residents of this area having a voice and RENEW to take account of their views.

I will be glad to go. It’s not a nice place to live... There’s no community left here any more.
