Hilary Freakley (pictured right), aged 65, is one of the first residents to move into Mill Rise extra care village in Cross Heath. The £15 million Mill Rise centre is one of the first schemes outside London to combine extra care housing for over-55s with a state-of-the-art primary care centre on the site of the former Collins and Aikmen factory in Lower Milehouse Lane. Mrs Freakley is one of 20 residents to take advantage of a shared ownership scheme. The remaining 40 apartments are for rent. Our picture was taken in June 2009 when Mill Rise opened to its first residents. Mrs Freakley is pictured with Aspire chief executive Sinéad Butters.
