Etruria street art (05)

Region: Etruria

New street art in Cavour Street, Etruria, in October 2005. The Etruria and North Shelton areas form the western region of RENEW’s City Centre South Area of Major Intervention (AMI). The Cavour Street public art was made by Denis O’Connor. A documentary on the making of the piece — one of three artworks costing £350,000 in total and funded by the SRB4 Stoke Approach Partnership, Advantage West Midlands and the city council — was shown at Etruria Methodist Church in Etruria Old Road after the unveiling. The artwork, named Privilege and depicting both traditional and new industries in the city, is sited at one of the main gateways into Stoke-on-Trent and is visible from the A53. The head offices of The Sentinel newspaper can be seen in the background.

I want to see the residents of this area having a voice and RENEW to take account of their views.

It looks absolutely brilliant, as good as a new house! It makes me feel proud to live here.
