The first machines rolled into action in March 2009 to transform a historic Stoke-on-Trent site into a vibrant new country park. Dignitaries, workers, residents and school children gathered at Chatterley Whitfield on March 6 to mark the start of the transformations. The former colliery is to be turned into a Heritage Country Park with a viewing platform, nature gardens, walkway and meandering river. The transformations are all part of the North Staffordshire Regeneration Partnership's (NSRP) multi-million pound vision for the region.
