Knutton brickwork (Aug 07)

Region: Knutton

Sam Williams outside his home in Knutton in August 2007. RENEW North Staffordshire restored bricks on 70 terraced houses designed by renowned local brick maker John Nash Peake.  It was part of a £1.3 million project to revitalise the area.  Sam lives in one of the houses affected - the bricks are on the front of the house and look like terracotta tiles with interweaving leaves. The Knutton Terraces Heritage Works project used materials that complement and enhance original features of the properties. Chimney pots, doors and windows were also replaced and, where appropriate, other architectural features such as boot scrapers were restored. Many of the homes also benefitted from new rear alleyway boundary walls and gates, new roofs and guttering as well as freshly-painted brickwork.

I want to see the residents of this area having a voice and RENEW to take account of their views.

It looks absolutely brilliant, as good as a new house! It makes me feel proud to live here.
