Middleport residents celebrate the news of £7,000 home refurbishments
Region: Middleport

Dozens of families are celebrating after hearing they are to have their properties refurbished. New doors, windows, walls and drains are to be added to up to 160 homes in a £1.2 million scheme. The news, announced in August 2009, is a major victory for Middleport residents who petitioned the city council after being told their homes would not be improved. Mother-of-one Sharon Black, aged 41, of Morton Street, said: "I’m pleased the council has listened and is doing something. It is good news." Up to £7,000 is earmarked for each home, depending on its state of repair. Sharon Black is pictured, centre, with residents Susan Whiston and Lyn Killick.

I will be glad to go. It’s not a nice place to live... There’s no community left here any more.

I want to see the residents of this area having a voice and RENEW to take account of their views.
