Marsh Head (May 2006)

Marsh Head pub, May Bank in 2006
Region: Newcastle

Marsh Head is the old name for May Bank, and the pub of the name was a suburban landmark for the best part of 200 years. Although for most of that time it was known as a tavern, rather than the luxury residential development it is today. A beerhouse since the 1930s, and once owned by Parker's Burslem Brewery, The Marsh Head stood close to the green open spaces of Wolstanton Marsh, and was the gateway to May Bank. It is pictured here, boarded up in May 2006 and it was finally demolished in 2007.

I will be glad to go. It’s not a nice place to live... There’s no community left here any more.

I want to see the residents of this area having a voice and RENEW to take account of their views.
