A people's champion has been remembered with the opening of community garden in his memory. Friends and family of Arthur Garside say he would have been delighted with a new garden that has been dedicated to his memory. On July 4, 2009, people gathered to celebrate completion of the £125,000 regeneration project in Chamberlain Street, Shelton. Named in memory of Arthur, a former Chamberlain Street resident and member of the Upper Shelton Residents’ Association, the garden was created using funding from RENEW North Staffordshire, in partnership with Sanctuary Group, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and local residents. Our picture shows Sue Lambert, deputy chair of the Upper Shelton Residents' Association sitting on a new seat in the memorial garden at its official opening.
