Developers want to know what families think about plans to build more than 100 houses and 350 flats. RENEW North Staffordshire is consulting with residents about a series of development options as it puts together a regeneration master plan for Shelton. Proposals include building new family homes and apartments on land in and around Shelton New Road and Snow Hill. There is also talk of creating more than 6,000 square metres of new business space. RENEW is also looking to redevelop disused buildings such as the chest clinic in Wellesley Street and the former Elms restaurant. The regeneration agency could also refurbish the Bell and Bear pub and convert and extend the Snow Hill college building.Meanwhile, a new pedestrian route may be created in Snow Hill, as well as a nature trail next to St Mark’s Primary School. Enid Davis, pictured, has lived in Chatham Street for 25 years and has seen a great deal of change in that time. She hopes the plans being proposed by RENEW will help restore a sense of community in Shelton that she feels has been in decline in recent years. Enid, aged 76, said: “The area has changed a lot since I first came to live here. Lots of people I knew have moved away. I sometimes wonder whether I should move out as well. But it is a good area, with a very central location. Hopefully if they do invest in new houses we’ll see families moving back here. It’s good to see that they’re planning to do something with the derelict buildings.” This picture was taken in May 2010.
