The public house The Roebuck nearby was demolished in 2008 to make way for new development by RENEW North Staffordshire, working with various partners to regenerate the area. Leek Road is at the heart of the city's proposed £282 million University Quarter which will stretch from Stoke Railway Station to the city centre and involve Staffordshire University, the City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College and Stoke-on-Trent College.
