Would you like to share your Abbey Hulton memories?
The Abbey Hulton estate is a priority suburban estate, within the RENEW North Staffordshire area.
In 2005 a masterplan was developed with the local community and key stakeholders, which identified a range of initiatives which would contribute to the sustainability of the local housing market.
Since 2007 Stoke-on-Trent City Council's Neighbourhood Renewal Team, working with the local community steering group and its partner agencies, has been working on a variety of projects as a part of the council’s annual £1 million Suburban Estates Investment programme.
These include:
- Environmental improvements and associated road improvements proposed for the area in front of the shops in Abbots Road. This work should commence in September 2009 at a cost of around £30,000. Eight shops will benefit directly with pedestrians benefiting from safer road crossings.
- A highways survey has been carried out, the results of which have identified parking habits on the estate and problem areas/hotspots. This information is being used to form a driveway programme for this year and coming years. The cost is around £100,000, and approximately 25 properties will be involved this financial year. The work will be done by the city council's Highways Team
- New bungalows have been built to provide modern accommodation for older people
