Bentilee is a priority suburban estate within the RENEW North Staffordshire area.
In 2005 a masterplan was developed with the local community and key stakeholders, which identified a range of initiatives which would contribute to the sustainability of the local housing market.
Since 2007 Stoke-on-Trent City Council's Neighbourhood Renewal Team, working with the local community steering group and its partner agencies, has been working on a variety of projects as a part of the council’s annual £1 million Suburban Estates Investment programme.
These include:
- Over 2009/10 a £245,000 car parking scheme on Ubberley Road will be completed which will provide off road spaces for 40 vehicles, improved landscaping and a recycling area. Car parking improvements are also being considered around the Uffington Parade area.
- A feasibility study on Bentilee Valley is underway which will consider the external environmental standard of the area, enhancing and developing the ecology/biodiversity, the provision of community facilities, improving the existing greenway route to encourage walking and cycling and providing opportunities for healthy activities as well as educational and business opportunities.
- Working in partnership with the Community Steering Group and EPIC Housing Association, other completed projects include facelifts to two parades of shops, a multi-use sports court and improvements to the Pavilion building at Bentilee Park, facelift improvements to properties in the the Beverley Drive/Galloway Road area including new driveways, paths and gates, off road parking improvements to two 'gateway' greens at the roundabout near to the junction of Beverlery Drive/Dawlish Drive and billboard style signs and artwork to promote the area. The Community Steering Group also produce a quarterly newsletter called 'Bentilee/Berryhill News'.
