The Knutton and Cross Heath Area of Major Intervention (AMI) is made up of the Knutton Village and the Knutton and Cross Heath estates.
This area falls within the 20 per cent most deprived areas within UK and RENEW has been regenerating the area through a mix of demolition, refurbishment and environmental improvement works.
By September 2009, 186 properties will have been demolished and more than 136 dwellings will have been refurbished.
This includes the flagship Knutton Heritage Works, which has revitalised Knutton Village through heritage-led regeneration and a range of community-led environmental schemes which have improved the accessibility and the general feel of the area.
The long-term aim is to create better housing choice by reducing the number of housing association properties and encouraging new house building.
It will become easier to get around the area by foot and car, access to open spaces will be improved and local shops and services will be supported.
To date, RENEW has invested more than £4 million within the Knutton and Cross Heath AMI and a further £4 million is set to be invested within the area over the next two years.
