The A500 heading north from Longport through the Chatterley Valley

North Staffordshire describes an area including the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme, the Staffordshire Moorlands and the city of Stoke-on-Trent.

The Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme has a population of more than 120,000. The population of Stoke-on-Trent is around 240,000 and the Staffordshire Moorlands has a population of around 94,000. Thus the total population of North Staffordshire is in excess of 450,000.

Until the late Nineties, North Staffordshire's industries included potteries, coal mining and steel. The mines and steelworks have now closed but an estimated 8,000 people still work within the pottery industry.

Steven Pritchard, Cobridge
I will be glad to go. It’s not a nice place to live... There’s no community left here any more.
