Creating a gateway to the estate and improved parking...

St Nicholas Avenue where parking facilities have been improved

The Norton estate is a priority suburban estate, within the RENEW North Staffordshire area.

In 2005 a masterplan was developed with the local community and key stakeholders, which identified a range of initiatives which would contribute to the sustainability of the local housing market.

Since 2007 Stoke-on-Trent City Council's Neighbourhood Renewal Team, working with the local community steering group and its partner agencies, has been working on a variety of projects as a part of the city council’s annual £1 million Suburban Estates Investment programme.

These include:

  • Gateway features for Norton Estate were completed in 2006/2007
  • In 2007/08 the parking issues on the estate started to be addressed with the provision of 52 driveways within the initial three priority roads of Barks Drive, Pinfold Avenue and St Nicholas Avenue. Residents have spoken of the positive difference that these have made for access, easier on-road parking and security of vehicles.
  • The 2008/09 programme will complete the driveway provision on the three priority roads, including the provision of a lay-by on a stretch of Pinfold Avenue where the topography prohibits incurtilage parking solutions. The rest of the estate has been surveyed to look for other solutions to parking problems.
  • The priority for the 2009/10 programme is the conversion of a derelict garage site to provide a secure communal car parking area

I will be glad to go. It’s not a nice place to live... There’s no community left here any more.

It looks absolutely brilliant, as good as a new house! It makes me feel proud to live here.
