£16 million spent to demolish poor quality homes and revitalise a community...

North Shelton falls under the western region of RENEW’s City Centre South Area of Major Intervention (AMI).

It is a traditional terraced housing area with some light industry and the local enterprise centre.

Around Snowhill and the Parkhouse Street neighbourhood, some larger homes provide opportunities for extended families and this area has had a more multi-cultural feel for many years.

RENEW has invested almost £16m in land assembly by buying more than 200 mainly poor quality homes in four housing clearance areas along with several purchases of strategically located business premises.

In addition, around £1.5m has been invested in to direct works to 170 retained properties, the environment and the creation of a small pocket park in Chamberlain Street.  Options for the construction of new homes on cleared sites are currently in development.

The Community Centre in Rectory Road, Shelton, and the Neighbourhood Worker are also RENEW North Staffordshire-funded via housing association partners Sanctuary Housing.

I want to see the residents of this area having a voice and RENEW to take account of their views.
Steven Pritchard, Cobridge
It looks absolutely brilliant, as good as a new house! It makes me feel proud to live here.
