The University Quarter Area of Major Intervention (AMI) is an extensive development which stretches from Stoke-on-Trent’s main railway station through the campuses of City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College, Staffordshire University and Stoke-on-Trent College up to the city centre.
UniQ is a planned £282 million transformation project to create a state-of-the-art learning quarter in Stoke-on-Trent.
The £282m project has already secured almost £180m from the Learning and Skills Council, Staffordshire University, Stoke-on-Trent FE College, Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Advantage West Midlands.
The rest of the investment will come from the Higher Education Funding Council for England, RENEW North Staffordshire and the private sector.
The largest collaborative project of its type in the UK, it involves Staffordshire University and key education partners Stoke-on-Trent FE College and Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College in a unique project to drive up aspirations and skills.
It will bring new development and major improvements to an important area of Stoke-on-Trent between the railway station and the city centre. This includes new shared education facilities which in turn will encourage commercial and residential investment.
The University Quarter will feature a collection of state-of-the-art new buildings creating a vibrant urban scene, but education is at the heart of UniQ’s development and its impact is expected to be far reaching and powerful.
TIMETABLE:
There are more than 2,000 properties within the University Quarter with more than 30 per cent of those properties within the private rented sector.
RENEW plans to support this development through a range of projects that will improve the housing market in the south of Shelton.
Significant RENEW investment is not scheduled for the University Quarter until 2015.
