The inaugural City Waterside Quiz Night took place on the evening of February 9 at the City Waterside Community Centre.
The event is part of a series of events to promote the City Waterside brand and bring the community together.
Thirteen teams of four battled it out over six rounds of general knowledge questions. Nine teams from the community took part but there were also teams from RENEW North Staffordshire, Sanctuary Housing, the City Council’s Neighbourhood Renewal Team and the Citizen's Advice Bureau.
It was a nail-biting contest but eventually a team of residents calling themselves ‘The Usual Suspects’, came out on top and took home the winning prize of Potteries Shopping Centre vouchers. Members of the winning team were Derek and Norma Durose and sisters Wendy Sherratt and Sheila Simmonds.
Nobody went home empty handed, however, as all participants received a generous helping of pie and peas courtesy of Neighbourhood Worker, Lee Carroll and his team of helpers.
Geoff Davies, Residents’ Friend for City Waterside who helped to organise the event, said: “In terms of resident numbers this has been the most successful event yet.
"There was a good cross-section of ages and everyone told me that they really enjoyed the evening.
"Due to the positive feedback that we received we are now looking to run a similar event in the summer together with a barbeque.”
