The People's Choice photo contest

Competition entry 'A ray of hope' by Carol Lafford

Visitors to The People's Archive are being asked to cast their votes for entries to a photographic competition aimed at capturing local life. (VOTING has now closed)

The People’s Choice contest is part of an exhibition entitled What’s New’ which runs at Burslem School of Art from March 19 to April 9.

More than 250 entries have been received for the competition, which was aimed at people living, working and studying in North Staffordshire.

The photographer whose image is chosen by the public will win £500 with two runners-up each receiving £250.

Entrants were told that their work should appreciate, comment on and document the area’s rich heritage, or capture changes taking place in North Staffordshire.

Suggested subjects included public and private buildings and spaces, indoors or outdoors; gardens and parks; workplaces; schools; colleges; faith centres; hospitals; streets; or shops.

The competition, which was open to both amateur and professional photographers, is organised by Urban Vision North Staffordshire – an architecture and urban design centre – and sponsored by regeneration agency RENEW North Staffordshire.

People can either cast their votes by visiting the exhibition or online.

I will be glad to go. It’s not a nice place to live... There’s no community left here any more.

It looks absolutely brilliant, as good as a new house! It makes me feel proud to live here.
